Our Story

Silva Upholstering Inc, now Silva Custom Furniture was founded by Eugene Silva in January 1980.

Eugene started in the trade at the age of 16 by sweeping the floors of a Toronto Furniture Factory, with hard work and determination he worked his way up to upholstering and has never looked back.

Eugene and his wife Marie originally focused on recoveries which they did out of their basement. He continued to work a full-time job and, in the evenings, they spent their time recovering old furniture. Eugene would do the upholstering and Marie the sewing. Eugene was always happiest when he could take an old piece of furniture and create something new and refreshing from it.

In 2002 Eugene and Marie legally changed the business name to Silva Custom Furniture. This was done to reflect the growth and changes the business was going through. Silva Upholstering was too limited. The new name allowed Eugene to continue with his vision of creating and manufacturing custom soft furnishings. He is a hand’s on owner and can always be found working in every department of the factory.

Today, the Silva Family consists not only of Eugene and Marie but also their two sons Matt and Jon and their daughter-in-law Devon. These three individuals are the second Silva generation and the future of Silva Custom Furniture. With their current innovative ideas and visions, they are committed to keeping Silva a leader in this industry.

Silva is a 100% Canadian owned and operated furniture manufacturer with a reputation for quality, comfort and style. Silva currently occupies approximately 40,000 square feet of manufacturing facilities and has a 5,000 square foot showroom. Each piece is hand crafted from beginning to end on site in Toronto.

Silva manufactures their own frames, which provides the ability to customize the sizes of most frames to suit individual needs. This allows clients the opportunity to select the perfect piece to compliment their own home. This can be achieved by customizing the size, stain colour, cushion fill, style of legs and finally choose from thousands of fabrics.

The Silva family together with their staff, “The Silva Team”, is committed to providing quality, Canadian made furniture to retailers across Canada and the United States. They have an extensive catalogue which is updated as new styles are created; it showcases modern, transitional and some traditional styles to appeal to a wide spectrum of tastes.

Silva has the ability to make your vision a reality, while at the same time provide high quality workmanship for an affordable cost.

Our factory and showroom are always open to retailers and Designers. Please visit us and take a factory tour to see why Silva’s commitment to quality design and comfort can benefit you.
